That title sounds familiar, doesn´t it?
It´s the subtitle for the Spread The Vibes challenge (not a challenge).
Why is it not a challenge? Because the main thing is spreading the vibes, and the more vibes you spread the better you do the challenge, but don't feel challenged!
I invite you all to join the #spreadthevibes feeling and more about the challenge at the end of this post
The Challenge!
Now for ehh at least the last twenty weeks I have been running the Tune Tune Train connection challenge. A top-up on his Three Tunes Tuesday, it´s three tunes with a connection and whoever solves the link gets a $1 boost on his or her or its next post (if Ecency accepts my points😡).
The latest challenge is still open so if you are curious have a look:
𝑺𝒐𝒍𝒗𝒆 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑹𝒊𝒅𝒅𝒍𝒆 & 𝒘𝒊𝒏 𝒂 $1 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒔𝒕 - [#TTT Week 17] - "Amanaemonesia Sunset on Arcadia"
Oh and as it´s not solved yet there is an additional hint in my Midnight Gems Session, which always contains a second hint if the riddle is not solved.
My POV
Now I am always jealous that I can not join the challenge myself because coming up with the riddle I always think it´s too easy. Just do your homework, ask ChatGPT, and do some Googling and you should get it right and put that $1 in your virtual pocket.
Maybe I should create a 2nd account and get that boost every week😝
Okay, that was enough self-promotion, well-deserved self-promotion because coming up with these riddles is quite a challenge (you see how I again slip in that word).
Because a #STV needs to be triggered by a musical post, and trust me it was!
Damn, what type of quiz is that, and 50 fluffing HIVE???? My prize is 2,5 HIVE, on a good day.
I got cocky right away and thought it would be sooo easy. Whywhy, because I am the expert in creating these riddles (I think).
So I checked it out and YES, the type of riddle is just like mine, what is the between the connection songs?
That is where I always get musically challenged (the good way); it triggers this classic song, which btw is not the answer to the riddle:
Now if you read my last two #STV post you know that I think that everything is connected, but again that also is not the answer to the riddle.
What Riddle?
Good question!
Let´s focus first on the riddle that triggered me, this post by .
#MusicQuiz - What do they have in common? - 50 HIVE price
Note to self: Steall that # (#MusicQuiz)
So what songs were supposed to be connected?
1
2
3
Now I will always keep it at three, because the more song the messier, in the sense of a wider range of options but is making it very difficult, which is fair with a 50 HIVE prize.
4
5
So these five songs have ONE connection. And like I said I considered myself an expert. So I ran the songs through my normal checklist:
Top Ten Checks
- Are they all #1?
- Are all artists dead or alive?
- Are the artists from the same country?
- Are the artists of the same age (or all dead)?
- Did all artists work on the same album, soundtrack, or tribute?
- Did they have a common band member/producer?
- Did they use the same (bands) sample?
- Do the lyrics talk about the same topic?
- Do the titles have something in common?
- Did they all play at the same venue?
Now those are my basic checks, and in this case, they all ended up with a big fat NO as far as my research goes.
Then I check what is the odd song out, because that is normally the thing that gives away the riddle;
The odd one out here is Duke Ellington, very different genre and much earlier than the rest.
So I checked if the other artist had any connections to the Duke, used his samples, or did a tribute....nothing came up.
So this is definitely a hard one, maybe the answer is in (the meaning of) the songs or the titles:
Papillon, Mighty Quinn, 3AM Eternal, When you´re gone, It don´t mean a thing.
At 3AM, when you are gone, it don´t mean a thing = A pretty fluent sentence, but how do Papillon and the Mighty Quinn fit in? I can add one, to the sentence but not both; hence no clear connection.
Now what are the songs about?
The song "Papillon" by Editors can be seen as a plea for hope in a world that seems to keep people down. The phrase "papillon" is French for "butterfly," and it could be an allegorical symbolism of a transformation or freedom being sought in the lyrics. The song encourages listeners to not give up and keep going in their struggles, no matter how difficult things may seem. It also acknowledges that there will be hard times, but they should not be taken as a sign that they should give up. The chorus emphasizes that, despite the difficulties, if they keep going, they will eventually find their own way home.
The subject of the song is the arrival of Quinn (an Eskimo), who changes despair into joy and chaos into rest, and attracts attention from the animals. The song was written by Bob Dylan and it is widely believed to have derived the title character from actor Anthony Quinn's role as an Eskimo in the 1960 movie The Savage Innocents.[4] Dylan has also been quoted as saying that the song was nothing more than a "simple nursery rhyme".
So we have Eskimos and Butterfly and the common theme so far is Joy, Despair & Chaos. Let´s see if there is a match with song three (not to be mistaken for Song 2 by Blur).
3AM Eternal by The KLF refers to chucking out time at the Spectrum Acid House club in London.
Nobody want to check our after a night of Acid, hence that is a time of despair & Chaos after a time of joy.
When You´re Gone, the song is about losing someone (to death?) and the feeling of you're entire world crumbling around you. The video seems to match this interpretation with everyone gathering, dressed in black attire and looking upwards (towards heaven?). A symbol of a burning room with two chairs, in the end only a single chair remains, burning alone... The song was also played at the end of Dolores O'Riordan's funeral on 23 January 2018, following her sudden death a week before in London at the age of 46. At the same time, it played on the majority of Irish radio stations.
Despair again, but no joy here.....
Duke Ellington wrote the melody “It Don’t Mean a Thing” at Chicago’s Lincoln Tavern in August 1931 during intermissions. Irving Mills then wrote the lyrics and the first recording. Ellington attributed the phrase “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing” to trumpeter Bubber Miley; Mills said he originated the phrase when explaining to Ellington why customers weren’t dancing.
There goes the "Despair" theme. Or is this song talking about the ultimate musical despair.... it don´t mean a thing if it ain´t got that swing?
So if your song does not swing, it basically sucks!
Okay so lucky shot, all songs are about despair?
Last Check
Oops, I forgot to do one last check: Are they all on the same label, NO!
Okay so I did 15 checks for you, 15 checks you do not have to do anymore. So now I invite you Dear Reader to do your checks, and if you solve the riddle we split that 50 HIVE as I did at least 50% of the work for you, agreed🤓?
That Riddle = Mission Impossible
After all my checks, I am still seriously lost, you too? The only thing that comes to mind is something similar in the sheet music, like the all use 3/4 time instead of 4/4, which is not it btw and they also do not have the same BPM.
So what´s left??
For me, nothing. I tried my best and came up with "Despair".
For you, just solve the riddle and if you can´t I promise you that if you do all my checks, you will solve (almost) all my riddles. Just try it;
These week's songs In my Tune Tune Train Connection are:
1
2
3
Now I always give away free hints so you get a better shot at that Ecency Boost!
The first hint was a musical one "I´ll Be Your Mirror"
And then, as no one solved the riddle by Friday I threw in an additional hint:
Who´s That Girl
Now following my pathway of deduction you should be able to solve at least one of these two riddles. I hope you solve the first (and make us both rich🤑).
I enjoyed your riddle a lot, thank you for inspiring me and allowing me to spread the riddle vibe on a lazy Sunday morning (and thank you for allowing me to steal the #MusicQuiz)
