It's not a big deal really, but I celebrate my birthday this weekend. It's been quite some time since I actually made a big deal about it. Maybe back when I turned 30 for the first time. It's probably going to be a pretty average weekend honestly. I think tonight we are going to go out to eat, tomorrow I might do a bit of Disc Golfing with in the morning after I go to see my parents, then I will likely spend the rest of the day on the couch.
Sunday the house needs to be cleaned and I will probably head to church before once again spending the rest of the day on the couch. My niece plays in a softball tournament this weekend that I will likely watch the stream. The Women's College World Series is also happening this weekend if you follow my account, so there is a good chance that might be on. The wife and I might finally finish the Bon Jovi documentary too.
Pretty normal stuff I know.
We never quite know when the abnormal is going to fall in the path of the normal. Every day is a gift and the older I get, the more I start to realize that. It's kind of like when you were younger you might have been lucky enough to have dozens of presents around the Christmas Tree each year, and as you grow older, you might still get presents, but probably not as many.
Unless you have a partner that loves giving gifts and is all sorts of extra. In that case, this analogy might not apply to you.
I think you get the point!
It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the community.
Speaking of the abnormal, I was reading an article the other day about a lady that was walking in the Czech Republic and she stumbled upon an ancient pot that was holding 2150 silver coins dating back some 900 years.
Can you imagine?!
I've been stacking silver for over a year now and even I can't imagine what it would be like to hold that many silver Denarii. Let alone shove them in a ceramic pot for safe keeping! Experts think so far most of the coins were minted in Prague, and the silver seems to be mixed with other metals into an alloy.
The odds of finding something like that have to be about as high as winning the lottery I would think.
Speaking of silver, my local bullion dealer has been advertising these sweet pieces lately. I know others have shared them here before, but I still find them quite impressive. At $80 I don't feel like that is too bad of a deal. Considering the spot price of silver last I saw was over $30. You are basically paying $20 for the bullet shape I guess. Plus the fact that they have limited quantities. Scarcity demands a premium they say.
At least I think they say that.
Meanwhile, crypto continues to be confounding and beautiful all at the same time. It's like playing a game of roulette, but with slightly better odds as long as you follow the basic tenets of crypto. Round and round and round she goes, where it stops, nobody knows.
The Retik claim period has finally started for the presale tokens. As expected, the price has virtually tanked since the claiming took place. Given the fact that there is a vesting period, I haven't tried to claim my tokens yet.
Right now the gas fees are more than the amount of tokens I would get. Plus with the price heading back towards presale prices, I'm going to wait a couple of weeks to see if it recovers. If it does, then I will claim a stack and at least get my initial investment back (I hope).
I've seen some talk that the tokens which were supposed to be locked after the presale have been getting sold by the team behind the project. Definitely not a good look if it is true.
Meanwhile, my PEPE I bought a bit ago is up about 6x from where I bought it at. Plus, I"m keeping an eye on the OSAKA token that recommended. Finally, I threw a bit of money into another meme coin called dogeverse. It's a presale and once again I expect to lose the whole $50 I spent on it, but then again, if I can pull out $1000 or so, I'd be okay with that.
Trust me, I am not a fan of meme tokens, but if I can throw $50 away at the casino in an evening, why not throw it at a memecoin instead. I probably have better odds of actually getting a win, plus I don't have to waste the gas driving to the casino!
I'm not sure if anyone else feels it, but there is kind of a buzz in the air right now. Things in the crypto space feel like they are charged and it's just waiting for some catalyst to initiate the reaction. It's possible we will continue in this state of "buzz" through the rest of the year. I think that just makes it all the more exciting.
People can feel change is coming. They know it, they want it, they are hoping for it. It's going to be interesting to see what happens when the ETH ETFs actually launch. I've heard rumors of other ETFs as well.
I have a feeling this next trip around the sun might be the best one yet!
