You might recall a few weeks ago I started doing a series of posts. They are part of the #threetunetuesday project started by . I started going through each state in the United States in alphabetical order. For some reason, I was thinking that this week was going to be Arkansas, but then as I got looking I realized I had totally forgotten about Arizona (sorry
).
I definitely haven't been to Spain, but I have been to Arizona before. I don't really count it because and I were barely on the edge of the state. As you might guess from the opening photo, during one of our trips to Vegas we rented a car and headed out to see the sights. If you want to read about it, I wrote a post a long long long time ago.
In any event, we drove over the Hoover Dam and found ourselves at a dead end road that used to be the main road before they created the bypass.
As it happens, once you cross over the dam from the Nevada side, that dead end section of road with a viewing area and a couple of parking lots is actually Arizona. As I said, we don't really count it although we did briefly get out of the car to take the photos you see above.
In terms of our "official travel map", we have not filled in the state of Arizona, though we hope to one day.
We recently got a bunch of snow over the weekend here in Michigan where I live. Then, this morning we woke up to what I can only describe as freezing fog on our way into work.
Though just the other day I was giving a hard time about complaining about the cold this early in the season, I can't help but think that Arizona might be a little more hospitable than our current location right now!
As soon as I saw that this week was going to be Arizona instead of Arkansas (that's next week by the way), this song by Mark Lindsay popped into my head. I honestly didn't know who Lindsay was at the time, but I was very familiar with the song.
Lindsay is an American musician who was the lead singer of Paul Revere and the Raiders. I don't think he had as much success in his solo career as he did with the band, but the song "Arizona" was one of the few that made it to the charts and sold over a million copies.
In any event, it just felt right to include this song in the mix this week!
There were actually a lot of songs to pick from when it came to Arizona, but I knew I had to include this one in the mix. For one, it's just a classic, and second, I recently picked up a piece of silver that reminded me of one of the lines in the song.
I picked up this really cool Korean Phoenix round last month and my initial plan was to give it to my nephew for Christmas. Now that I have it in my hands, I think that I am going to keep it for myself instead. It's pretty awesome. I actually wish I would have gotten more of them.
Anyway, there is a line in "Keep On Rocking Me Baby" about Phoenix, Arizona, so it felt like it would fit really well in this post. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Finally, I wanted to leave you with the song that is the inspiration for the title of this post. "Never Been to Spain" is one of my favorite Three Dog Night songs. In fact, they have a ton of good songs if you have never really listened to them. I highly encourage it.
I hope you enjoyed these three songs I shared with you today all having Arizona in the title or lyrics. Check back next week when we visit Arkansas (I think).
