If you’re passionate about history and architecture, you will surely enjoy my trip today. We are in Taranto, in the Puglia region (Southern Italy).
The main attraction is the Aragonese Castle, also called Castel Sant'Angelo of Taranto, a structure that can be admired with a guided tour of about two hours.

Se siete appassionati di storia e architettura, sicuramente vi piacerà la mia gita di oggi. Siamo a Taranto, nella regione Puglia (Sud Italia).
Il protagonista è il Castello Aragonese, chiamato anche Castel Sant’Angelo di Taranto, una struttura che si può ammirare con una visita guidata di circa un paio d’ore.

The castle's architecture is decidedly fascinating because it stands on the shores of the sea. In fact, this natural element can be found in all the ancient decorations.
For some years now, an exhibition with a selection of model naval units has also been open, which is really very interesting! I love miniatures.
L’architettura del castello è decisamente affascinante perché sorge sulle sponde del mare. Infatti, questo elemento naturale si può ritrovare in tutte le antiche decorazioni.
Da qualche anno ha anche aperto una mostra con una selezione di modellini di unità navali, davvero molto interessante! Io adoro le miniature.
The castle preserves traces of all the peoples who, over the centuries, have lived in the city and have in some way contributed to making it what it is today. We are talking about Byzantines, Saracens, Spanish, Habsburgs, ...
Each of these civilizations also destroyed and expanded some parts of the building, and this is clearly visible during the walk, because you can see fortifications made with different materials.
This fortress is certainly the symbol of the city, and the people of Taranto are very fond of it, because over the centuries it has allowed them to defend themselves from wars and invasions.
Il castello conserva le tracce di tutti i popoli che, nel corso dei secoli, hanno vissuto la città e hanno in qualche modo contribuito a renderla quello che è al giorno d’oggi. Stiamo parlando di Bizantini, Saraceni, Spagnoli, Asburgici, …
Ognuna di queste civiltà ha anche distrutto e ampliato alcune parti dell’edificio e questo è ben visibile durante la passeggiata, perché si vedono fortificazioni realizzate con materiali diversi.
Questa fortezza è sicuramente il simbolo della città e i tarantini (gli abitanti di Taranto) vi sono molto affezionati, perché nel corso dei secoli ha permesso di difendersi dalle guerre e dalle invasioni.
