Saturday passed as fast as a good evening with friends. Yesterday morning, when 
Except nothing went as planned. I ended up spending the whole day redoing the bathroom grout. The thing that had been sitting at the very bottom of my list for over a year.
We couldn't go running because we absolutely had to do laundry before our trip. Every hour counted. So I looked at what I had on hand to tackle the shower grout. Since we moved into this house, we had never redone them. And I'm pretty sure the previous occupants hadn't either.
On top of that, in two weeks, some friends are coming over. I wanted them to be able to shower in decent conditions. No way they'd think we're slobs ^^
There was really a lot of mold. I scrubbed as best I could with baking soda and vinegar.
On the lower part of the wall, at the junction with the bathtub, the silicone grout between the tiles had seen better days. I removed them using a flat screwdriver. When I called my mom, she told me about a tool specifically designed for that. Off to the nearest hardware store. I took the opportunity to buy an anti-mold spray.
Back home, I tested the famous tool. Verdict: my flat screwdriver was more effective. So I kept going with it. I applied the anti-mold spray everywhere, then went to eat.
In the afternoon, I finished removing all the remaining grout. That's when I realized I was missing some solvent. Back to the store. I took the opportunity to pick up a special pen to restore whiteness to the cement grout between tiles without silicone.
Back at the job site, I finished the cleaning then applied silicone all around the bathtub and the sink. First time I'd ever done that. Genuinely difficult: once you start getting grout on your fingers, it's nearly impossible to get rid of it.
It was almost 9pm when I put the tools down.
When I had written that in my todo over a year ago, I honestly thought it would take two hours.
I'm pretty proud of the result:
The bathroom could really use a proper makeover, it's pretty rough around the edges. But at least it's noticeably cleaner.

Samedi est passé aussi vite qu'une bonne soirée entre copains. Hier matin, quand on s'est levés avec
Sauf que rien ne s'est passé comme prévu. Je me suis retrouvé à passer toute la journée à refaire les joints de la salle de bain. Le truc qui végétait tout en bas de ma liste depuis plus d'un an.
On n'a pas pu courir parce qu'il fallait absolument faire des lessives avant notre départ. Chaque heure comptait. Alors j'ai regardé ce que j'avais sous la main pour attaquer les joints de la douche. Depuis qu'on a emménagé dans cette maison, on ne les avait jamais refaits. Et je suis à peu près certain que les anciens occupants non plus.
En plus, dans deux semaines, des copains viennent à la maison. Je voulais qu'ils puissent se doucher dans de bonnes conditions. Pas question qu'ils nous prennent pour des crados ^^
Il y avait vraiment beaucoup de moisissure. J'ai frotté du mieux possible avec du bicarbonate et du vinaigre.
Sur le bas du mur, à la jonction avec la baignoire, les joints en silicone entre les carreaux avaient bien vécu. Je les ai retirés à l'aide d'un tournevis plat. En appelant ma mère, elle m'a parlé d'un outil spécialement conçu pour ça. Direction le magasin de bricolage le plus proche. J'en ai profité pour acheter un spray anti-moisissure.
De retour à la maison, j'ai testé le fameux outil. Verdict : mon tournevis plat était plus efficace. J'ai donc continué avec lui. J'ai appliqué le spray anti-moisissure partout, puis je suis allé manger.
L'après-midi, j'ai fini de retirer tous les joints restants. C'est là que j'ai réalisé qu'il me manquait du dissolvant. Retour au magasin. J'en ai profité pour prendre un stylo spécial pour redonner de la blancheur aux joints ciment entre les carreaux sans silicone.
De retour au chantier, j'ai terminé le nettoyage puis appliqué du silicone tout autour de la baignoire et de l'évier. Première fois que je faisais ça. Franchement difficile : dès qu'on commence à avoir du joint sur les doigts, c'est quasi impossible de s'en débarrasser.
Il était presque 21h quand j'ai posé les outils.
Quand j'avais noté ça dans ma todo il y a plus d'un an, j'honnêtement pensais que ça prendrait deux heures.
Je suis assez fier du résultat :
La salle de bain mériterait un vrai coup de neuf, elle est dans son jus. Mais au moins, elle est nettement plus propre.
