Before now I belonged to the category of people who thought being an artist was easy, I always thought since their hands are blessed they could do anything and everything, this changed when I had a peek into my artist's friend’s life Tayo.
I always wondered what could go wrong in these peoples life but getting to know what goes behind the scene is so touching and my respect grew for all artists globally.
I have a friend named Tayo, Tayo is an artist, a young promising artist trying to make it in the art world, he is constantly learning the ropes, improving himself, and putting himself out there but my dear friend is discouraged.
Tayo is on the verge of giving up on drawing, he is frustrated and gradually losing it.
Tayo left Nigeria for Italy to further his education. He initially wanted to go to Canada but he wasn’t granted visa so he had to opt for Italy, he went to Italy without adequately learning Italian, so he is doing his best to learn the language, which has not been easy. In Italy, he feels nothing is working for him and as such he is gradually losing it.
Tayo’s frustration started when his Instagram account was permanently disabled, he had tons of followers on Instagram, that was where he got majority of his clients because he was constantly posting and engaging with his followers but all of a sudden his Instagram account got disabled and it felt like he had lost everything.
Tayo had to start from scratch, building his followers from scratch again felt like a never-ending hassle.
In Italy he tried to study the market there, balancing his studies and drawing has not been easy for this young man. He hasn’t gotten any client in ages and Tayo thinks the universe is against his art.
He does not know how to source for clients, just recently when he thought he stumbled on a good deal, it appeared the potential client was a fraudster and he almost got scammed in the process of negotiating with the client.
How do I advise my friend Tayo not to give up?
How do I advise him that life is in stages? How do I help him regain his lost confidence? How do I explain to Tayo that this is the price you pay to become great?
I keep praying that Tayo my friend gets back the fire that made him start drawing in the first place and gets his acts together.
I wish he understands how blessed his fingers are and that he has a rare gift.
This and many more I pray Tayo gets to understand before it is too late but until then I will continue to be a supportive friend and continue to push him.
It is not going to be a walk in the park but I pray sooner or later Tayo comes back with more fire and zeal but for now, fingers crossed.
I have encouraged Tayo to join Hive so he can meet his fellow artists on this blockchain.
As an artist how do you keep pushing when things gets tough? How do you manage your emotions during bad times so it does not affect your art?
I would love to get feedbacks on this in the comment section.
