When I settled here in France, I instantly fell in love with hydrangeas. The good thing that there are several hydrangeas here in the Bretagne region.
When I got married, I really wanted this ball of hydrangea as my bouquet but my hands were so full because I was carrying my daughter when she was a week old. She was breastfeeding while we were in the ceremony.
Anyway, I really want to paint Hydrangeas so I made a gouache painting study about it.
Hydrangea Inspiration
I have so many photos of hydrangea flowers here in France, so here is one photo for inspiration with blue, purple, and pink colors.
Four Hydrangeas on a Vase
I also searched on Pinterest what the hydrangea flowers would look like on a vase. There, I started with a sketch.
I filled the circle with flower petal sketches.
I started with a purple then painted dots for the blue.
I had difficulty painting this because I needed to study more about how other artists did it. I should have added white paint into it.
I ended up with this but still I really enjoyed these balls of hydrangeas with purple and blue.
Let's add another blue hydrangea flower and repeat the same process.
And lastly, the pink hydrangea flower.
I decided to add two more leaves near the pink hydrangea.
I painted yellow-green first on the leaves and stems. Next, I added another layer of green to blend with the yellow-green.
For the vase, I painted it grayish blue to imitate the transparency of the vase with water inside the vase.
