Our friendship started quietly when we were kids. We were classmates, lived in the same area, and slowly began spending time together without even realising how close we were becoming. After school, we would rush to the stream near the village with our bats, ready to play cricket. The game was never the main reason—we simply enjoyed being together and felt happy in each other’s company.
As children, we were not allowed to go far from home, but now all of us are grown up and working in different places. Some are in government jobs, some in private work, and some run businesses. Because of our busy routines, it has become very hard to meet often. Still, whenever a few of us are home at the same time, we try our best to plan a small gathering.
A few weeks ago, some of my friends were in the village due to a holiday, so we decided to go to Nilnag Lake, which is one of our favourite places. It is a peaceful spot surrounded by nature, and we always prefer such quiet places instead of restaurants. We love cooking together during our outings, so we bought chicken and planned to prepare it ourselves. We trust our own cooking more than restaurant food because we know it is fresh and clean.
When we reached the lake, we divided the work. Some friends went to collect firewood, while others started preparing the ingredients. The wood was wet, so it took time to light the fire, but after trying again and again, we managed to get it burning. Everyone gave their own “expert advice” while cooking, and as always, the food turned out tasty—maybe not perfect, but delicious because we made it together.
Our outings are always full of fun. We joke, tease each other, sing, dance, and sometimes even have small friendly fights. A few friends smoke only during these trips, just to enjoy the moment. What matters most is the time we share, not the food or the place.
Our group has always been close because we make sure we respect each other. We avoid hurting feelings, and we stand by one another during good and bad times. We have many small memories that still make us smile. These moments have helped us stay strong and happy throughout life.
The friendship we share has no limits. We value each other, we know each other’s importance, and we want this bond to grow stronger with every passing day. My friends are like a lifeline to me, and life feels meaningful when we are together.
