HOW THE IGBOS MAKE THEIR LIVING
the igbos make their living through many ways
Agriculture
The igbos has root crops which include yam cassava and many varieties of cocoa yam
No meal is considered complete without at least one or two of these. They are cultivated on the land this is one of the reasons land has a great value in the igboland land means many things in Igbo communities it is the domain of the earth goddess, a barrier place for the ancestors, a place to live on and make a living land is there for the most important assets to the Igbos.
Farming land tenure
The system of land tenor used by the Igbo prescribes the rights of individuals or group over the land they use. How such rights may be acquired their content the security enjoyed etc
The Igbo system of land tenure is based on four principles
1 All lands is owned there is no concept of abandonment of land or no man's land among the igbos whether the land is cultivated or not it belongs to somebody
2 lands ultimately belongs to a lineage and cannot be alternated from it
3 within his lineage the individual has security of tenor for the land he needs for farming and building of house each lineage is made up of a number of territory Kin based unit called umunna
4 no member of the lineage is without land
Igbo ideas and believe about God
The idea off
a creator of all things is focal to Igbo theology the belief in a supreme god a high god who is all good they also believe in Small gods who through which they get and received things from the high god the high god is conceived of different rules in creative role the Igbo call him Chineke or chiokike. Chi means God okiike means that creates this is to distinguish him from other minor gods..
He is also called chukwu meaning the great god as the pillar that supports the heaven they call him Agalaba ji igwe.
The igbos are faithful to their gods
Minor gods like Ala the earth goddess though not too important is regarded as being nearer to them
Ala is the earth goddess a great mother spirit of fertility she increases the fertility of man and his productivity of the Land
