A Day, A Journey, and 16,188 Steps – My Unexpected Marathon
Yesterday was one of those days that started like any other – routine, structured, and predictable. I got up early, got ready for work, and stepped out for the office – a place that’s exactly 12 km away from my house. Normally, I’d take my usual route and transport, but yesterday, unknowingly, I was signing up for a mini-marathon.
The morning commute was brisk, full of energy, and already had me clocking in more steps than usual. After reaching the office, the day unfolded like it always does – some work, a few meetings, and then a much-needed lunch break. But this lunch break was different – instead of staying in, I stepped out with my team to a nearby spot. We laughed, shared food, and walked a bit further than planned. It felt refreshing to mix work with a little adventure.
Post-lunch, I spent some time chilling with friends. It was light, fun, and added a few hundred more steps to my tally. But then reality struck – pending work. I dived back into emails, calls, files, and all the loose ends that needed tying. It was hectic, but satisfying.
As the evening approached, I wrapped up the last of the day’s tasks and headed home – not alone, but with my colleagues who’ve become more like friends. We didn’t take the shortest route home either – walking, talking, and laughing along the way. That walk made me realize how simple moments can carry so much joy.
When I finally got home, I checked my phone. 16,188 steps.
It wasn’t planned. It wasn’t forced. But every step was part of a story – of work, friendships, movement, and moments that made the day unexpectedly beautiful.
Lesson of the day?
You don’t need to hit the gym or go on a trek to be active. Sometimes, life’s regular rhythm can give you more than enough steps – and stories.
