Inaczej zaplanowałem dzisiejszy dzień. Chciałem przy okazji wizyty gości pojechać w jedno ciekawe miejsce w Ardenach, w które wybieram się od dłuższego czasu. Pomysł uzyskał akceptację wszystkich, ale problemem okazała się pogoda. Dziś nad Belgią przesuwały się fronty burzowe i kiedy rano sprawdziłem prognozę po raz kolejny, okazało się, że najprawdopodobniej trafilibyśmy w sam środek burzy – a to nawet w tak niskich górach jak Ardeny nie jest dobrym pomysłem.
[ENG] I planned today a bit differently. I wanted to take our guests to an interesting spot in the Ardennes that I’ve been meaning to visit for a long time. Everyone loved the idea, but the weather turned out to be an issue. Storm fronts were moving across Belgium today, and when I checked the forecast again this morning, it became clear we would likely end up right in the middle of a storm—which isn't a good idea, even in mountains as low as the Ardennes.
Stąd zmiana planów: zamiast zamków w Ardenach, postawiliśmy na urocze uliczki i flandryjskie kamieniczki w Lille. Dopisało nam szczęście, bo chmury deszczowe przetoczyły się nad miastem dwukrotnie. Za pierwszym razem byliśmy akurat w barze na kawie i zza szyby obserwowaliśmy rozwój wypadków. Za drugim razem nie zdążyliśmy nawet wyciągnąć parasoli, bo przestało padać.
[ENG] Hence the change of plans: instead of Ardennes castles, we opted for the charming streets and Flemish townhouses of Lille. We got lucky because the rain clouds passed over the city twice. The first time, we happened to be having coffee in a bar, watching it unfold from behind the window. The second time, we didn't even have a chance to pull out our umbrellas before it stopped raining.
Spacerując po starym mieście, trafiliśmy na ulicę, przy której stoi niesławny „dom mumii” – kamieniczka, w której ciało zmarłego właściciela przeleżało 15 lat, zanim zostało odkryte. Kamienicę przejęło miasto, ale od lat nic się z nią nie dzieje.
[ENG] Strolling through the old town, we came across the street where the infamous "Mummy House" stands—a townhouse where the deceased owner lay undiscovered for 15 years. The city took over the building, but nothing has been done with it for years.
