A new adventure today: taking the train rather than the car! It worked well, just under three hours on the train, and four hours door to door. Costs about £10 more, I would say, once taxis are factored in, but I'm not sure I booked the cheapest train tickets.
Longer-term, the idea is to travel with just a day bag of essentials, mainly IT items, and have both places equipped with the essentials. One plan is to get a freezer down here to hold milk and bread etc. Now pondering whether to get a chest or under the counter freezer. Chest might be easier given the space (also cheaper)!
Walked into the next village to make the steps, stopped in the Indian for supper - rice and daal and saag paneer - and then picked up some overnight provisions. Happy to get a 20% off voucher. It must be hard for these semi-rural shops to make a living.
Spotted this lone bench on the footpath between the car park and the platform to London. There are several dotted about, I wonder if anyone ever uses them.
The walk into the village was lovely, very quiet and filled with flowers. Lavender and honeysuckle filling the air.
There was a huge hedge of brambles, too, full of flowers, there will be rich pickings of blackberries in the autumn. Also found lots of wild cherries on the way home.
This one may have been in someone's garden. I wonder if they will pick them? It feels a little early but maybe not. I made cherry jam a few years back. You can make it with less sugar and keep it in the fridge - or just freeze them.
These were bordering a field, behind a sturdy barrier of nettles - also good for something - I think these would be fair game.
