Clear sunny day told me to do laundry and go cycling. World Bicycle Day demanded it. Bike parking place has huge symbolism as the FACILITIES CLOSED sign has gone
Lovely day for a walk at Apple Tree Bay - calmer than yesterday.
Blue mushroom caught my eye under a rock. Size a bit bigger than a quarter.
Next mushrooms are lot smaller (not up to penny size)
Lots and lots of bristle helmet orchids - one photo to capture its striking nature
Corybas fimbriatus = Latin for frilly.
The little mushrooms always demand attention. Not quite an inch high. The orchid leaf behind is the size of a quarter
Autumn is aciathus orchid time. ID still baffles me. You decide if the next two are the same species. Narrower with more purple
Wider helmet and more translucent and more calli on the labellum
I do know this is some sort of fungi. Spiky enough to say "hands off".
I was goung to turn around at Mt Ku-ring Gai turnoff but pushed on. Not long after the junction I spied this
Was excited as this is a first sighting on this track. I have been searching here for 3 years after a tip off a few years back higher up the hill
Tall greenhood - pterostylis longifolia
I have seen this orchid in two other locations at much higher altitude. These are 3 metres above the sea. They are super sensitive to disturbance and labellum disappears.
Photographer was on his A-game
Bonus is the next photo = pollinator.
Tracking back I found more acianthus orchids between me and the water.
I never give up the photography challenge. The helmet is two match heads across
Great walk and an 18 kms bike ride.
Afternoon spent on a little traffic work on new memberhsip site. Check it out here.

Dusk excitement was the sound of military helicopters doing circuits. This raises my heart rate as it reminds me of war zones I have lived in, like Cape Town 1978 or London in IRA times. They made 7 passes in all. I have never seen them do this.over Sydney suburbs.
The news this morning is it was dusk, water and residence training. Yeah right. Getting ready for insurrection.
Dinner: Roast chicken - simple
