Heading south for a weekend away. Was a slow drive south with a breakdown in one of the choke points out of the City - one of the tunnels. A slow process - got to be patient. Sure pleased I was mot driving - trip half an hour longer than normal. Did have time to go for a bike ride
A cluster of bugs to start the observations. Hard to ID what they are but they are dominating this plant
Did spy some ladybirds below. Hard to tell if the bugs are ladybirds in training. Colours do not line up
Step back shot - climbing creeper
Christmas balls - dyanella fruiting
Never knew what will be orchid of the day. Plant had budded but something has knocked the top off. Dipodium variegatum - top been nobbled off
Did find a hyacinth orchid open - a flash of purple flowering from the bottom. This is what orchids do
Now for the next- deeper colours - bit more fluff on the labellum
Step back - a bit different to the one befoe. Colour - yes. No spots on the pedicels. More blotched - yep dipodium punctatum - blotched hyacinth orchid
Contrast- more burgundy - more even blotches
One of several - dipodium variegatum
Close up - small bud cluster
Front on - dipodium variegatum
Flowers unfolding
Australian bluebell - one only
Native violet - for my granddaughter Violette- now 5 months only
Two plants right on track edge on the way back
Walked back into main section of the fire trail - two dipodiums showing form - probably punctatum - right on track edge
Checked another small side track - budding dipodium variegatum
Folding out but not quite openers
A few days to opening. Flowers have folded away from the spike - watch them open from the bottom
So good to get out on the bike for a bush walk especially after the last bike ride ended with a cracked rim
Home made pizza for dinner
And then Love Actuallly on the TV - the classic feel good Xmas movie
