A grey day and rainy to start. Always a risk on these days that depression creeps up on me. I know what to do - get some wins in place and get outdoors. Finished off last week's investing post. Did some IM stuff.
Dithered about what to do - been getting on trains for days like this. Decided to get a train to the Metro interchange and catch whichever Metro came first. Heading north it was. Had an idea to walk from a Metro station to City Rail station. Changed my mind and got out at Macquarie University - the only university this side of the bridge.
Very different to my Alma Mater - University of Cape Town - there is grass between the buildings
Nice walking path into the campus - classic Aussie gum trees
Been looking at this building going up but always from the other side the Lane Cove River or even from our apartment the other side. Not too long and the crane will go
Macquarie Hospital - did not know there was one here. Lots of students wearing scrubs
Found a loop path on the edge of the bush above the creek. Got to follow those
Track follows the edge of the bush on the opposite side to the residences. Fab place to live and study. My first study did have a view of Devils Peak but it was not parkland
Some large scale art in the gardens. Nice reflection shot
No flowers open on these lilies where the leaves follow the sun
Lots of angles of the big apartment block - this one over the residence block
Fab spot to study and library is walking distance behind
The bush bit is one of the Sydney Turpentine remnant blocks. This one is tiny compared to the ones near us
Aboriginal circle
Art form looking the way I was walking
Side on to frame the residence block behind - note the grey rainy sky went away. Enough to lift my mood
In case you have not had enough of the big tower block. Imagine the views from up there and walking distance to Metro and shopping centre and uni.
Remnants of one of the old farm buildings
View back across the fountain lake. A few students emerging for afternoon ambles
Walked up the main walk that cuts across campus - Wally's Walk. My uni had nothing like this - just roads cut into the mountainside. Flame tree doing well
Agave flower - easy to see where pagoda designs came from
A flash of red - art centre?
A line of food places. The modern way. My university only ever had the student union cafe
Getting closer. Jim Piper Centre - not Googled it
Fab art in a small quadrangle
Baby version in the same quad. Got to say I was getting the urge to come back to do uni stuff a fee years. I did the student thing but the best time was working on staff - especially through the dark days of South African Police on campus and work to rule days staying working when the government said not to. Feels like Sydney 2026
A few motivational posters on the way to the station
Bring a flashlight
Back to cubes
This one takes a bit of thinking. Meet a lot of smart folk from the US if you are not confident of your bit alone. That is what university is for - finding smart friends
Was a good walk - love the open places.
My wife's brother stayed over - simple BBQ for dinner
