Road trip home starts with a walk down the high street of Braidwood
A few grand old buildings - another Literary Institute
A few more simple buildings mixed in
A mix of simple and grand
Stopped in at the local butcher to buy my dinner - prices were good
The Albion Hotel - now a cafe - closed last night
Bakery still running
Victorian style - with a modern twist
And more painted white
St Bede's Catholic Church - sorry about the cracked lens cover messing the light
The Commercial Bank going back a bit. Would have been the bank and the manager's residence in 1888. Used AI to edit out the car parked in front
Chose to drive the direct route to Nowra via Nerriga. Fabulous wide road until the roadworks not far from Nerriga. Figuring the road will all be at the standard of the first section. It is the direct route between Defence HQ in Canberra and the large navy base in Nowra
Stopped at Nerriga Catholic cemetery. Grass been cut too short for orchids
Cemetery shot - these are great undisturbed places for orchids - keep the mower man away maybe a month at a time
Nerriga hotel. From here the road goes into Morton National Park - keen to walk some of that
Nerriga street art - would have to look up the bushranger history to understand the art
Did walk some of Morton NP. Permit required - walked in anyway. Seems the permits are for 4wd vehicles not walkers
Purple fringe lily
In more than one tone
Banksia shaping up
Woollsia pungens
Slender rice flower - seems late
Mushroom contortions
Next stop walk down to Tianjara Falls - the portrait
The landscape shot
Looking downstream
Banskia shaping up
Patersonia iris seems confused about season - blame it on the warm days
Orchid leaves getting ready for their season - probably bearded orchids
Back to the road - walked a section of Bunya Firetrail - distinctive was the sound of bees. I know to look out for bee hives. Firetrail walk did not produce orchids but there is always something to enjoy
Banksia flowering
Lots of trigger flowers along the track
More banksia with a telling display
Flowering eucalyptus - zoomed out a bit
Zoomed into the flower
And zoomed back to grab the grandness of the tree
Lambertia formosa with attendant ants - the ants are in focus
NSW coral heath flower
Did the shopping in Nowra and dropped into Two Figs Winery to pick up wine and to stock up. Shot from up high of the Shoalhaven River
Was enough time after unpacking to visit the three caravan parks for our October Bike Friday NSW meet up. Picked the one next to where our house is. Easy walk to bowling club for Friday dinner, nice bbq area and kichen next to the pool and G'Day Parks member discounts.
Then hit the road to explore orchid possibilities in Seven Mile Beach NP
A native violet for my granddaughter Violette
Did find chiloglottis seeded and flowering - probably diphylla - a lot more this week
Calli down the length of the labellum and sepals extend down and curved in with long yellow clubs
Then walked the bike track - got to say we are in for bumper autumn season with more acianthus and pterostylis leaves than I have ever seen. Will sare all the photos taken - this is a cluster of pterostylis curta looking good after a poor year the previous year
Did find a few acianthus budding
Always a highlight this little lily
Was a busy navy flying day - captured one on camera
Out of time to post - the ride stats.
Was good to be home - cooking dinner on my own barbecue and drinking a gin and tonic from a local winery.
