A different day lining up. First stop drive down to Huskisson Beach to meet up with my son and his family. Parked up and walking across the park to where we last met. Hear footsteps behind. Apparently the minute Scarlett saw me shie took off to run after me. We jumped steps a bit and then went for a walk
Admired flowers along the way - banksia
Lifted her up at one of the beach lookouts. Can we walk the beach? We did. Photo from way back - mum and the two girls at water's edge
A bit of a geology lesson. The black rock is Wandrawandian siltstone going back 250 million years. The notable part is the remnants of other rocks embedded when sea levels rose 120 metres
A piece of quartz
Shells too - two types in shot. Amazing how well preserved they are
We studied snails - they eat the algae - just like the fish tank at home
Rock Pool study - Scarlett, Daddy and Daddyman studying snails eating algae
Clouds broke a bit to show the blue water of Jervis Bay. Was a great catch up. Daddyman took off to walk a track not walked
Had to walk a different trail as there was a hazard reduction burn on one I wanted to walk - walked a new track
Bonnet orchid leaves
Slender rice flower
NSW coral heath flower - epacris pulchella
A small clearing offered up parson's bands orchid - a lot in flower
Key to ID is the large leaf forming after flowering and hairy spike - eriochilus cucullatus
Double header
Mushroom action
Funky light effect on this double header
Banskia - good to see so many open.
A seeded orchid - not seen these before - the droop of the pedicel has me wondering on ID
Matching rosette is a cluster of leaves more than most greenhoods.
Hibbertia
Snake orchid - cymbidium suave - seed pd showing. For some reason they prosper on these low cut tree trunks
Wondering how they get there. Seeds from plants higher up. Bird poo?
Found a fee more parson's bands orchids. One more shot - good to find them in half a dozen spots on both sides of the track
Sundew flower in pink
Cryptostylis subulata leaves - green underside
Cannot help but share another double header
Lambertia formosa - a bit late flowering
Track mushroom - quite large
Mostly the parson's bands were growing in the grassy bits. This cluster in the blue metal edge of the made up fire trail
Goodenia - a few open
Avid orchid spotting shot- a single leaf and not grass - mum friend suggested the other day these may be sun orchids. Seems a bit early
Orchid structure shot - single leaf and the sheath emerging that the flower spike will grow from
Mini pom-pom banksia
A surprising flash of pink. A boronia I have not seen
Seeded midge orchid
A different epacris - one flower in focus
Interesting mushroom form as it opens out
View from the underside for my mushrooms friends
Did some shopping on the way home. A good day out - rock pools with my family and new orchid tracks
Cooked pizza for dinner. Posed photo for Giro D'Italia
