If you've been following along these last few weeks, you'll know that Brad and I have been travelling (quite fast) through parts of Australia.
Some days are awesome, some are okay and a few have been pretty stressful.
Today, was one of the more stressful ones.
When I have one or more nights of not sleeping well, and/or my digestive system is tied up in knots then these things impact everything else.
My resilience is low. My normally great patience takes a hit. My smiles and sense of wonder disappear.
I've had some belly pain, for several hours each day, for more than half the days of this trip.
I've slept enough to wake well rested maybe less than 20% of the nights so far.
It all takes its toll. And when I'm struggling it impacts Brad too. Especially when I have zero interest in seeing YET ANOTHER view from yet another lookout! 😅
In between one of our "discussions", he said something that immediately cut through my annoyance:
Maybe not having a plan for the days ahead and winging it this much is actually making it hard for you to relax.
Boom!
I wanted to be annoyed but I knew he was right.
I was trying our original plan of making it up as we went along, but it was clearly stressing us both out.
I also thought this would allow for me to stop earlier on the days when I need to drive less and rest more.
But it seems it's not the way for us.
So, I took Brad's suggestion. We were already stopped at Warrnambol (Victoria) for me to have another loo break and eat lunch, and instead of driving on for another hour or two, we just booked our motel right there and then.
I immediately felt my body relax.
While he still drove us around to several lookouts in town (which were pretty 😍), once we were settled into our motel we started on the plan for the next two days.
And now I know where I'm sleeping for 12 of the next 13 nights! 🎉
(Photo of black swans 😍, dusky morehens 😊 and one preening water bird of some kind 😁 at Lake Pertobe, Warrnambol.)
