Today's dry weather provided a good opportunity for a mountain bike ride. So after some family duties, I got myself changed into my cycling gear and set off on my bike. 😁
It was chilly at about 5 to 7 degrees, but I didn't notice it after a while. A good windproof jacket and a skullcap provide enough protection for these conditions.
I cycled past the Ifield Mill on my way to Buchan Park, where the track conditions are not too soggy.
There were a few spots along the way where it was getting soggy, so I needed to keep to the sides or even find an alternative route.
There are plenty of track forks where a choice has to be made. I know this park well now, so this helps when choosing the right path to avoid known wet areas.
Today's ride took me past a nice landmark, which I have visited many times before, but it is worth showing again here. A totem, which has a simple message on the rear. It says "For Robin".
There has been a lot of forest work around the park recently, coppice work, and general wood clearance. It can look bleak when it is first done, but after a couple of years, the wood recovers well.
We are always reminded of the danger of fire these days. It would be tragic if one of our parks were to burn, but the fact is, this is a real possibility if we have a heatwave this year. 🤔
A nice easy ride in a popular park. It is important for me to build up fitness for tougher challenges later in the spring and summer when the forest tracks dry out! 😁
