What a weekend! It was so busy that I completely forgot to post my actifit report for Saturday, so here is a two-day recap of my weekend. Let's get started with a bit more of the gorgeous street art in my Bushwick neighborhood.
Saturday's report starts at midnight. My partner and I were in Manhattan at Webster Hall for an EDM show featuring some excellent bass artists. Coming on at midnight was DRINKURWATER, a Phoenix-based producer, who threw down my favorite set of the night. His water themed video production and heady bass remixes really got the crowd moving!
The next act up was the duo Eazybaked. Their music was a bit more downtempo, and the crowd was a bit distracted for their set. It definitely got to the artists who were struggling with the vibe of the crowd. NYC can be a bit harsh, so if you don't capture our attention, the crowd will check out. Maybe they will have more success next time, but this was the least successful set of the night.
Finally, the headliner took the stage, and he played a great 90-minute set. Ravenscoon recently released a new album, so his set was packed with new tracks, new remixes, and his best crowd pleasers. It was a great way to bounce back from what was a bit of a cooler from the previous artists. Also, Ravenscoon had some really nice new imagery to complement his music.
Rounding out the night of bass was Meduso, someone I've been looking forward to seeing live for the first time. He took the stage at 3:15 am and played 45 minutes until close. He kept the energy up and the crowd was feeling the vibes. Eazybaked should take a lesson from Meduso how to play to crowd!
Our friends from Long Island were there at the show with us, which meant he gave us a ride home from the venue, so we didn't have to take the subway home. It definitely saved me some steps and a bunch of time commuting home at 4 am!
I was up at 10 am to enjoy a full morning of English Premier League soccer (football ⚽️) while my partner got her beauty rest. It is so nice and calming to watch the footie while she is so cute lying next to me fast asleep!
When she finally woke up at 3 pm, we spent a few minutes cleaning up around the apartment before trying a new taco shop for brunch. This new spot focused on seafood so we ordered some shrimp tacos and a shrimp ceviche tostada. I preferred the ceviche to the fried shrimp taco since I don't much care for breaded/fried food and the lime marinade was bright and fresh. While the food was tasty, I thought the price point was a touch high and I'd just rather enjoy the Al Pastor taco shop one block away.
We walked around the neighborhood a bit and I captured some more pics of the street art since we were on a new block to us. Check out this cool art next to the subway station!
We decided to get a bit of dessert, so we walked over to the Korean-inspired "ugly" donut shop. We both got the same dulce du leche stuffed cinnamon sugar donut. They were delicious! Here they are having a donut kiss.
We got home around 7 pm and I was pooped! We had another club night scheduled for Saturday night to see Chris Lorenzo headlining The Great Hall at Avant Gardner -- the premier night club in New York City during the indoor winter months. I napped until 11:30 pm and by the time I was ready to head out, the clock stuck midnight. I racked up 11,456 steps on Saturday, December 9!
Let's transition to Sunday's report with another bit of street art we saw while walking to the club. This was our first night at Avant Gardner for the fall-winter season, since The Brooklyn Mirage is an outdoor venue that is forced to close during the cold winter months. Avant Gardner has two different indoor venues, the larger Great Hall and the smaller Kings Hall.
We got to the club with 30 minutes left in Kyle Walker's set. All the artists on the lineup were playing some fun, upbeat, bass house and tech house music. Everyone I talked to had a blast dancing to Kyle Walker.
The headliner, Chris Lorenzo, came on at 1 am and played a great 2-hour set. He had the crowd moving and grooving throughout, with some fresh mixes for his biggest crowd pleasers!
I captured this picture just as Chris Lorenzo was ending his set and passing the reigns onto VNSSA, who was our closer for the night, playing the last hour until 4am. I really enjoyed her set, which featured house music a little darker and with more bass than what I'd typically expect to hear from here. I was very pleasantly surprised by her and would encourage her to incorporate more music like this in her sets.
A bunch of our friends decided to head back to our apartment for a little after party of sorts. One of the guys went back to his apartment real quick to grab his laptop and DJ decks, and he spun more house music well.past sunrise. People finally left around 7 am and after cleaning up I was in bed by 8 am.
Unfortunately, that didn't allow me much rest, since I planned to meet my mom at 10 am in The Bronx to help her clean up around her condo. At least I got to lie down for 30 minutes before heading back out in the gloomy NYC weather.
I was able to set up her new Roku box to allow her to stream on her TV. Welcome to the 21st Century mom! After a few more hours of tidying and bringing some stuff up to the attic, she dropped me off at my late grandmother's house to help my dad with more household chores.
There is a ton of work that needs to get done at my grandmother's home before it is ready to get listed ok the market. My dad's three brothers were also in town, and we celebrated the Hanukkah holiday at 5 pm. My father planted a whole grove of trees in Israel, and dedicated a few of them to his relatives in a very thoughtful and charitable gift. Other highlights of the night include a tasty bagels and lox (smoked salmon) spread to enjoy.
After a bit more cleaning and tidying, my dad drove me back to Brooklyn. I was exhausted after the all-nighter and a day full of chores. Even going to sleep at 9 pm, I still managed to amass over 15K steps on Sunday, December 10.
All in all, I totaled over 25K steps this weekend, and saw three EDM shows over two nights. Thanks for checking in and ready more reports. If there is any content you'd like to read more of in a standalone article, let me know in the comment. Have a great week yall! Cheers!
