Heart break in Manhattan, as Chelsea lose a miserable match at home in the Premier League against Brighton. It was our first proper 10am (3pm local UK) Saturday started of the year, meaning we would be playing in the busiest time slot of the weekend.
I met up with my fellow New York Blues at our home at The Football Factory right by The Empire State Building. But there are also other supporters groups that meet at this legendary pub, including Leeds and Crystal Palace, who were also playing at the 10am EPL TV block.
Chelsea lost 3-1 at home to Brighton. We had a 1-0 into halftime, but a boneheaded red card early into the 2nd half dashed our chances. We took a defensive position and eventually conceded the lead and then all 3 points. Very poor afternoon indeed.
To rub salt in our wounds, Leeds was ahead for large portions of their match and escaped with a solid point, while Crystal Palace surprised with a huge upset win over 1st place Liverpool to remain the only unbeaten team after 6 weeks.
We were not even close to being the loudest club in the pub. Sad to think how far we'd fallen since being crowned Champions of the World at the Club World Cup less than 3 months ago. At least the pub always delivers with their spread for the Irish breakfast. The roast mushrooms and baked beans go a long way with the trifecta of meat options, and then my combo of HP + Tabasco sauce takes it to the next level. The breakfast was much better than Chelsea's performance.
Besides the trip to the bar, I didn't get many more steps in Saturday night, besides a quick Uber ride to The Chocolate Factory for a popup from OG future bass fave Whethan. That's a story for tomorrow though, since he popped out after midnight. Until next time...
