I've had this date circled on my calendar for months. Barcelona at Chelsea in the Champions League group stage. These are the games that being a supporter are all about. Meeting up with the lads, sharing holiday greetings, and singing together for our Chelsea Blues.
I was able to get out of school a few periods early as my co-teacher stepped up to cover our Unit 4 Test on their own. So clutch, thanks fam! I got out of school at 2pm with a 3pm kickoff. I hustled over to the M train and got to The Football Factory 20 minutes before kickoff. All the usual suspects were there, plus about 30 other fresh faces and NYC tourists supporting Chelsea on the road.
There was a buzz in the air, both at Stamford Bridge in London as well as in the basement of Legends across from the Empire State Building. The boys came out with something to prove and played one of the best games I've seen since the pandemic year of 20-21 when CFC became European champions.
Goals were scored, songs were sung. "Can we play you every week?" The vibes were high!
By the looks of it, so was my step count. Still holding strong over 10K two days into the school week. A few big spikes as I walked to and from the subway to get to Manhattan for the game. I will be buzzing about this one for a few days, but up comes Arsenal on the weekend. They are playing like the best team in the world, so it will be another huge test. Cmon you Blues! Until next time...
