The walks
Today's day of movement had a nice rhythm to it. It started and ended with the dog — two walks that quietly stacked up the step count and gave both of us a chance to breathe some fresh air. There is something grounding about dog walks: no pace to chase, no distance to hit, just moving together at whatever speed feels right.
The run
The highlight of the day was the afternoon run. I headed out on gravel, which is always a bit more honest than tarmac — the surface gives slightly under your feet and asks a little more from the legs with every stride. I covered 6.7 km with a plan to keep the pace growing throughout. It worked out well: I started comfortably easy and gradually pushed until the average pace settled just under 6:00 min/km.
Finishing strong on gravel feels especially good because you know the surface was not making it easier for you. The soft ground is kinder on the joints, the surroundings tend to be quieter and greener, and the building effort gives the run a proper sense of direction. By the last kilometre the lungs were working and the legs were earning it.
Summary
All together: two dog walks, one quality gravel progression run, and 8,360 steps for the day. A well-rounded Wednesday.
