I've been a little distracted lately
I've disappeared a little bit. I've been focusing a lot of my time on a horror novel I've been encouraged to submit.
Yesterday I was having a hard time, yet again, realizing I'm still stuck here in Vermont, and I have no idea how much longer this will be the case.
So, I went on a hike
At first it was supposed to be a short, fast-paced hike. In fact, I had set a time limit for it. I was going to see how far up I could go in an hour and a half, and then return. I left around noon and I wanted to be back by 3; and only 1 day later I can't even remember why.
However, shortly after I started(well I had to double-back first because I forgot a lighter), I found myself just going and going. It started raining a little bit, and as weird as it may sound to many people, that encouraged me.
I find rain much MUCH more pleasant than sunshine. Especially light rain. Heavy rain is beautiful but I'd rather witness it from a dry area.
Quickly I realized I might as well just go to the top. It's strange exploring this mountain, that I've "known" the majority of my life; with a different perspective after working here for several years.
In the past few years, I've worked for 5 different departments at the mountain. Three seriously, and two just filling in random gaps. Throughout those positions, I've gotten to know this place in a whole different sense than I ever thought I previously would.
Going to the top was no easy task. I'm not really sure where that decision came from. I was overdressed and only had some seltzer with me. I also forgot my lift shack keys(which I'm not supposed to still have); on any hopes of finding a water bubbler. As luck would have it, one of the doors on the mid mountain lodge was unlocked and there was 1 full 5-gallon jug of water hidden in a pile of a dozen empty ones.
Next thing I knew, I had burnt 5 (6? I don't know) hours and walked to the top of a fairly intense mountain and back. It didn't help much with the writer's block, honestly. But it was a good outing.
I'll be back on HIVE tomorrow to catch up. It's been an eventful week.
