this night walk, the destination is south east. my housemate suggested to try a route to the tourist favorite sensoji temple. i pondered quite long whether to go or not; i was expected to be back by 21:30 for gym and the temple was far, scarily far for comfort. in my head, i was imagining how to go by train and that was a mess. there were too many transits so going there by foot would probably be the same. the housemate said that it would take at least 45 minutes to go one way. upon hearing that, i immediately dressed up and headed out. that is totally doable. with very little time to spare, a few snaps along the way would suffice, i supposed.
there was no grocery store to distract me this time, i traversed residential areas in a breeze. found a temple halfway and this ended to be a photowalk. i couldn't stop taking snaps after snaps. i think i finally get the enjoyment of photowalks.
here are notable shots taken in this night walk.
sensoji finally greeted my sweat drenched body. i was surprised at how it was still fully lighted. and crowds of tourists are taking pictures here and there just like me.
and the moon made a special appearance making the scene a bit more romantic. well romantic is not really something to describe a temple. i will probably write more about this temple with more photos in the future.
i passed by this back road to reach the temple.
shops lined the street, and lanterns illuminate the path.
the street was actually part of an amusement park complex, hanayashiki — the oldest amusement park in japan.
restaurant lanterns are surprisingly cool looking at night. i couldn't help but take a snap.
i passed by another temple before reaching sensoji. and someone happened to be praying by the lights. it was one of those "happened to be in the right place at the right time" moment.
from afar, the person was a bit hard to notice. so when i zoomed in and saw a person glowing in the dark, i thought i saw an apparition.
here are some pictures of the residential area.
the route i took was 7.5 km in less than 2 hours, not bad at all.
however (a big however), today was leg day. more leg workout it is then.
- pull ups (12 x 10)
- squats (70kg x 3 x 12)
- dead lift (50kg x 3 x 12) <-- from 45kg
- lunges (25kg x 3 x 12 per leg)
- bulgarian split squat (25kg x 2 x 12 per leg)
- leg extensions (52kg x 4 x 10)
- leg press (145kg x 3 x 12)
- calf extension (165kg x 3 x 15)
- a set each of the following with no rest between sets
-- hip abduction (57kg x 3 x 12)
-- hip adduction (43kg x 3 x 12)
walking is fun, i am now a fan. at least at night it is; the night breeze is cool, no sun to burn you, and night views are irrisistable. you'll have walked kilometers in no time while enjoying the view. however, this is greatly dependent on safety as well. i just happened to be in an incredibly safe city.
hope you consider night walks in your exercise routine.
as always, stay safe.
