here is my chosen picture for the day. i loved how this couple came into view. i loved how the gate became a frame for this couple's walk. i loved how the stone pavement glistened, a mellow shine as pathway to all of these happenings. on with the blog.
intro
tuesday, autumn equinox! it is the official end of summer and start of autumn, chilly wind is here again. it is a holiday here in japan. so what do we do? nothing planned, sadly. the holiday was sadly sandwiched by working days, quite difficult to make long travel plans. housemate jb had a plan with an outside friend, housemate js said yesterday that she will probably have to meet a friend as well, and housemate c just wanted to stay at home and sleep. so i quickly made a plan with housemate g.
vietnam lunch
so the plan started with lunch, i informed him of this shop i saw in my nightwalk yesterday. we decided to have lunch in vietnam! we enjoyed our pho and bahn mi set with vietnamese coffee. it was surprisingly a heavy and sumptuous lunch. the pho soup was really addictive, and the bahn mi bun was toasted. impressive!
the stroll that came after
as i said, it was quite a heavy meal, so it made sense to have a stroll around the neighborhood to aid digestion. it was a rather sleepy street, not much traffic. this father and daughter tandem had the whole street to themselves. and what a cute background they were at, i quickly took a snap.
passed by this shop with the traffic lights and pedestrian lights. housemate g was surprised at how massive these things were. well they really look big up close, they definitely look small up there on the streets. i was not surprised though, i knew they were big from the get go, i have seen one up close before.
it was around here when an old japanese woman asked for directions. here we are again with directions, i admit that i panic a lot when people ask for directions. luckily, housemate g was there to verify all my answers. this lady wanted to go to the ueno museums, she was going the opposite way for sure.
market scramble
as it was a tuesday, i was surprised to see this much people here in ameyokocho outdoor market. it was a very festive sight, business seemed so alive. hope these people were here to buy stuff and not just stroll around. markets really have some charm to it.
in one of the underground shops, we found this quite extensive filipino food shop. they really had the basics and the raw products to flavor a filipino dish. they do come at a higher price but that is quite expected for imported goods. i bought cane vinegar, i miss this sour taste which i could not get in any japanese branded vinegar.
before heading out, housemate g was craving for milk tea. great that there was one around. here is what i got, black sugar boba milk tea. the day is starting to look like a day to satisfy cravings.
park stroll
i am here yet again in ueno park, daytime this time. with the boba milk tea in hand, we walked through this huge park. i decided to have a detour to the temple area where i took the cover photo and this photo with the lady. very dramatic photos with the setting sun and the glistening stone tiles.
the central fountain area was full of people. people were just sitting beside the waters. does this prove that people are drawn to waters without them realizing it?
that is how my day went. how about you, what do you usually do on autumn equinox day? is it even a holiday in your country?
as always, AMPING KANUNAY!
