YouTube has all kinds of videos. Today it recommended that I watch 15 minutes worth of old TV commercials. I had been watching videos about Israel and Iran and I wanted a break from thinking about that situation so I watched the old commercials.
So the video is titled Poorly-Aged 60s Commercials. This warned me to expect possibly sexist and stereotypical material which someone 60 years ago was just fine to use to get folks to buy their products. And yes that was the case.
Women were represented as incompetent in many ways such as not being able to make a good cup of coffee and not being able to drive well. They are portrayed as only having value if they have a slim shapely body.
American Indians and Oriental folks were characterized in a rigid stereotypical fashion.
These days are things much better? Every other commercial is for a drug or cream or lotion which offers to fix serious or minor problems but if you ignore the happy faces and listen to the voice-over you'll hear 10 ways this product could kill you!
I often mute the commercials or change the channel when I can. But on streaming platforms you can't skip commercials so its a good time to get up and exercise in another room!
My Activity
for this Wednesday was some daily movement to keep the blood and lymph moving. I went out and did some food shopping and that god me most of my number for today as I walked up and down every isle.
There was no walk tonight since it is too hot and humid to be out there for the necessary time to get proper exercise. I just did more body weight exercises like squats and pullups and various stretches and twisting motions.
Tomorrow I may walk and possibly also get to the pool for some swimming.
I hope you had a nice day!
Happy Thursday to All! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
