In January 2020 I started a daily walking routine. The goal was to walk 20 minutes every day in 2020. Even with COVID I managed to do just that.
During storms or cold weather I would throw on a YouTube Walking video and walk-in-place in my house. But when I walked my outdoor route either on the property or up the dirt roads I would listen to Motivational Speeches set to a background of inspiring music. Although I'm not a runner, those speeches/music had me picking up my pace and even breaking out into short sprints during those early morning walks.
Lately I've used my walking time to listen to podcasts or talk on the phone. Now I can't say there is a direct correlation but my walking routine has been a bit slower, less focused this year. Fitness in general hadn't taken a back seat but I had moved over to the passenger seat.
Shortly before signing on with the Actifit app, and especially since then, I've taken back the wheel. My general activity level, my walks and workouts, and my tracking of my health and fitness almost reach my 2019-2020 levels of commitment and frequency — but not quite the same intensity.
One factor that stepped it up a notch today was cranking up some of that Motivational Speech music for my morning workout. It kept me moving, doing a little more and then just a bit more again than I'd usually do — including another longer workout in the late afternoon.
The speeches/music aren't the only factor but my motivational workouts have certainly helped me climb back into the driver's seat.
