I use the phrase "just move" as a reminder that I don't have to be continually working out or going on fitness walks as long as I don't sit and vegetate all day.
**"...a body at rest tends to stay at rest, and a body in motion tends to stay in motion…" It's a science thing! **
Just getting up to stretch or walk across the room can stop me from spending countless hours zoned out doing non-productive things such as playing games or disappearing into social media. I even tag a lot of my Actifit dailies with "justmove". My fitness tracker has a sedentary alert (fancy term for couch potato warning) that tells me "Time to Move" when it detects too much inactivity. The reminder is nice even when I'm engaged in more productive pursuits such as writing or research.
This morning I hit the floor running (actually it was walking), pursuing my morning tasks at a steady pace then getting in a nice little aerobics workout with some dumbbell work too — motivational music included — to the tune of 2600 steps by 8:30. For me, that's fantastic. Now, the trick is to keep the movement going all day without setting off my sedentary alert.
And I did fairly well today. Storms kept me in the house much of the day. As tempting as it was to just sit and do nothing but work my brain and fingers, I got a lot of minor interior home improvement jobs and deep cleaning done in lots of little spurts.
