Today is my eldest daughter's 30th birthday. 🥳 It is also day 2 of my return from the dark ages of a mostly non-digital world.
Over two weeks ago my smartphone went dumb and left me in a silent world without instant voice and text communication with friends, family, and strangers. The screen went dark and although the phone was on it was also slow, constantly resetting itself, and impossible to use with its black screen.
It was a bit disconcerting at first. However, by day three I was adjusting to the silence. No notifications. No spam calls. No digital distractions.
Aside from no Actifit and no texting, one of my main annoyances in the first few days was not knowing the time (so I wouldn't be late to work). My smartwatch, which synced to my phone, went dumb when my phone decided that it was mid-July and 10 hours and 40 minutes off from the actual time.
I'd have to mentally do the math with what my smartwatch said to calculate the real time. Although it has an alarm function it is tied to the companion app that was installed in my now useless phone. Finally had to go buy an alarm clock for home use. On the plus side, I finally set the dash clock in my truck. ⏰
Although I do have a laptop it was mostly used offline. I had to get it set up for going online so I could access at least a sliver of my former digital life.
The process of getting another phone set up is slow-going. But I did get Actifit installed so I can get back to tracking activity and posting reports. (After frantically searching my SD card files for my posting key!)
