This week has been one of the most packed and running around days I have ever encountered, unfortunately half of the time the actifit app wasn't on, no thanks to my now overly-updating-wonky-Samsung that is driving me up the wall once a while.
However, I still could clock in some decent time when I remember to constantly check if it is working...
So what have I been up to the whole week??
One of them is none other than...
Working with the champions!
This is actually my very first time helping out training new voices not within my usual church genre; in fact, it is actually a song where everyone in our 80s would have remembered the song written by Michael Jackson.
These group of kids, are not normal kids, they come from various background: Some are orphans, some are abandoned, and some are surrendered by the own family members who could not afford to keep them alive.
Yes, it's really sad, but they are never down and out
In fact (now rebranded) for the last 13 years were supporting this under privileged home, providing food aid month after month.
They even have 3 kids who actually got at least 5 As (distinctions) for their final high-school government exam (SPM—Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) where it is one of the main pre-requisite for Malaysia to continue their studies in pre-University and colleges.
It is amazing to see their tenacity to learn and refuse to bow down to their past.
I didn't know when / who took this haha... but oh gosh! look at the white hairs popping up at the back!
My Worship Minister has kindly did the first "narrow down" selection of the kids and allocated them in groups, and because he had to attend to other responsibilities, I was blessed to get to work with them, outside my comfort zone.
Even though I have trained kids before, but most of them are in a much smaller numbers. This is the first time I work with such a huge group of untapped talent!
Their supervisor was recording their practice, I was holding up my tablet so that they can hear the karaoke instrument to sing on time.
For them to catch up in tune in 1 sitting is truly nothing short of a miracle (I know I have used this phrase umpteen times) even though there are a tiny handful of "slightly tone def but miraculously maintained at flat note base". How the LORD could make all the different voices come together even with their limitations is remarkable to witness!
At this point of time they are yet to perfect the pitch for certain part; and of course, additional recording to make sure they can hear it clearly and practice at their home (without our "professional" guidance).
This is actually not an easy song to manage.
Moreover the singers of the original song competed with their "vocal agility skills", so a plain-and-simple recording is important for the kids to present it without stress.
At least they still have 14 days to practice
Before the big day.
On the eve of Mother's Day.... but I think this is not the actual event.
I am yet certain if I could be there to witness their performance. Right now I can only fingers crossed and pray for them and hope my Worship Minister can take over to resume training with them.
Of course, from all the "stir-fry" actions conducting, I still get to have a blessed scrumptious meal with good ministerial fellowship with my own choir-bees.
And that's just Sunday
The rest of the week was nothing but plenty of driving before dawn and plenty of walking, from one hospital to the next... getting follow up done for my mom.
Not to mention doing my usual rounds to the dispensary and document registration for my mother's medical card updates as "kurang upaya" / "person in need of assistance"
(this will allow us to hopefully get parking space closer to the hospital entrances in the future)
No matter how vigorous the travels are, the skies are still blue on clear days (though hot), and thunderstorms bring cooler climate. Everyday is still a day worth dancing in the presence of the Lord
Just only this week when I started reading this book in between waiting time of doctors appointment, God has kindly used this author to remind me of it.
Keep dancing
Until Then
Stay healthy, stay curious and learn new things, and stay happy!
