I started my walk in the charming village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds" because of the River Windrush that flows through it. The stone bridges arching over the river were picturesque, and I enjoyed watching families feeding the ducks while sipping on a warm cup of tea from a nearby café.
As I ventured further along the many walking paths, I came across an old stone church, St. Lawrence's, which dates back to the 12th century. It was fascinating to see the Norman architecture and the lovely stained glass windows, which told stories of the past. I also stumbled upon some quaint shops selling local crafts and honey, which added a touch of charm to the walk.
During my hike, I met a lovely couple who were also exploring the area. They shared their own travel stories and recommendations for walks I should take in the future. They were particularly enthusiastic about a trail leading to the stunning village of Upper Slaughter, known for its beauty and tranquility. It’s moments like these that make walking not just a solitary pursuit but a way to connect with others who share a love for history and nature.
As I made my way back, the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the fields, and I took a moment to appreciate the beauty around me. The Cotswolds, with its rich history and natural beauty, never fails to captivate me, and I can't wait to return for more adventures!
