Starting in the charming village of Bourton-on-the-Water, often referred to as the "Venice of the Cotswolds," I strolled along the River Windrush, crossing the iconic low bridges that span the river. The cottages here, built from the local honey-colored stone, create a beautiful backdrop, and the gardens were bursting with vibrant flowers.
As I walked further, I made my way to Lower Slaughter, which is just a short hike away. The tranquility of the area was palpably serene, with the sound of birds and the gentle flow of the river. The Slaughter Mill, with its historic waterwheel, was particularly captivating, and I spent some time imagining how life must have been for the millers and villagers in years gone by.
Along the way, I encountered a few fellow walkers—an elderly couple from London who shared stories of their travels through the Cotswolds over the years. We chatted about our favorite spots and they recommended visiting the nearby village of Stow-on-the-Wold, known for its antique shops and lovely market square.
As I continued my journey, I also met a local artist who was setting up her easel by a scenic viewpoint. She was painting the landscape, and we talked about how the Cotswolds has been an inspiration for many artists throughout history. It was fascinating to hear her perspective on the area's beauty and how she captures it through her art.
I wrapped up my walk with a stop at a quaint tea room, indulging in a slice of homemade cake along with a lovely cup of Earl Grey. It was wonderful to reflect on the day's sights and the interesting people I met along the way. The Cotswolds truly is a magical place
