As I meandered along the trail, I was surrounded by rolling hills and charming villages. The fields were a patchwork of lush greens and golden yellows, and I couldn’t resist stopping to admire a few local sheep grazing peacefully. Their fluffy coats contrasted beautifully with the vibrant green grass.
One of the highlights of the walk was passing through the village of Bourton-on-the-Water. It’s often referred to as the “Venice of the Cotswolds” due to the small bridges crossing the River Windrush. I stopped at a quaint café by the river for a cup of tea and a slice of homemade cake. While there, I struck up a conversation with a lovely couple from London who were also exploring the Cotswolds. They shared their favorites spots and it was fascinating to hear their experiences.
Further along the way, I visited the historic town of Stow-on-the-Wold, known for its antique shops and rich history. The town square was bustling with locals and tourists alike, and I enjoyed a little stroll around the market stalls filled with homemade goods. I even picked up a few handmade soaps to take home.
The walk itself was invigorating, with every step revealing something new. From the ancient stone walls to the quaint cottages, the beauty of the Cotswolds is truly captivating. I returned home feeling refreshed and inspired by the history and stories that linger in the air of this beautiful region. It’s walks like this that remind me why I love exploring my country so much!
