Starting from the picturesque village of Alfriston, I meandered along the trail, enjoying the vibrant greenery and the soft, gentle undulations of the landscape. One of the highlights was passing by the iconic chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters, which were absolutely breathtaking. The contrast of the bright white cliffs against the blue sky and the deep green of the fields was simply stunning.
Along the way, I spotted several historic landmarks, including the ancient Long Man of Wilmington, a giant figure carved into the hillside, which dates back to the 16th century. There's so much mystery surrounding its origin, and it really makes you think about the people who lived in this area hundreds of years ago.
I also met a few fellow walkers on the trail. One particularly interesting encounter was with a local artist named Lucy, who was sketching the landscape. We chatted about her love for capturing the beauty of the Downs, and she shared stories about her inspirations and how the ever-changing light plays a crucial role in her art.
As I continued my walk, I stopped by a charming little pub in the village of Eastbourne for a well-deserved pint of local ale and a traditional ploughman’s lunch. The pub was buzzing with warmth and laughter, and it was a great spot to reflect on my walk and the fascinating history surrounding me.
Overall, the walk was a perfect blend of natural beauty, rich history, and delightful encounters, making it a truly enriching experience that I can't wait to repeat!
