As I walked, I admired the honey-colored stone cottages with their distinctive architecture, typical of the Cotswolds, and the vibrant gardens bursting with flowers. The River Windrush glided alongside me, and I paused to watch ducks gliding lazily on the water's surface.
I continued my walk towards Upper and Lower Slaughter, two neighboring villages connected by a lovely footpath alongside the River Eye. The tranquility of the area was palpable, interrupted only by the sounds of birds and the rustling leaves. The views were breathtaking, with the countryside stretching out in every direction, dotted with sheep grazing in the fields.
Along the way, I met a lovely couple from London who were also exploring the area. We struck up a conversation about our favorite walking routes and discovered that we had a shared interest in history. They recommended a few historical sites nearby, including the old mill in Lower Slaughter, which dates back to the 19th century.
After a pleasant chat, I continued on to the mill, where I was fascinated to learn about the traditional methods of milling and the role the mill played in the local economy. The surrounding area provided the perfect backdrop for some photos, with its stunning views of the countryside.
As the afternoon sun began to set, I made my way back to Bourton-on-the-Water, feeling invigorated by the fresh air and stunning landscapes. It was a lovely walk filled with beautiful scenery, engaging conversations, and a deeper appreciation for the history and charm of the Cotswolds.
