As I ventured along the path, I was greeted by rolling hills, lush meadows, and vibrant wildflowers. The landscape was dotted with sheep grazing peacefully, a quintessential sight in this part of England. I took a moment to appreciate the views from Dover’s Hill, where I could see the Severn Valley stretching out before me—it was quite breathtaking!
Along the way, I met a lovely couple from London who were also enjoying a weekend hike. They were quite knowledgeable about local history and shared some fascinating tales about the area, including the origins of the wool trade in the Cotswolds, which played a significant role in the development of many of the towns and villages. We spent a pleasant half hour chatting about our favorite walking spots and even exchanged tips on hidden gems to explore.
As I continued my walk, I stumbled upon the picturesque village of Broadway, often referred to as the "Jewel of the Cotswolds." The high street is lined with quaint shops, galleries, and cafes. I took the opportunity to pop into a small tea shop for a cream tea—a perfect treat after a long walk!
The history of Broadway is quite fascinating too; it used to be a coaching stop on the route from London to Worcester in the 18th century. I could feel the history seep through the cobblestones as I wandered around, imagining the travelers who once passed through.
By the end of my walk, I felt rejuvenated, having soaked in not just the stunning scenery but also the rich history and friendly encounters along the way. The Cotswolds never fails to enchant me, and I can’t wait for my next adventure!
