As I strolled along the riverbank, I marveled at the quaint stone bridges and the traditional Cotswold stone cottages with their thatched roofs. The whole area was bustling with families enjoying the last of the warm weather, and I couldn't help but smile at the little ones feeding ducks by the river.
Continuing my walk, I ventured into the surrounding fields, where I was greeted by the sight of sheep grazing lazily. The rolling hills dotted with sheep are such a quintessential part of the Cotswolds. I also passed several old stone walls and hedgerows, which are not just beautiful but also serve as important habitats for wildlife.
I encountered a lovely elderly couple along the way, who were out for their daily walk. They were incredibly friendly and shared stories about the local area, including the history of the wool trade that once thrived here. They pointed out some of the historic buildings, including the old mill, and gave me a brief insight into how the Cotswolds became a prosperous region due to this industry.
As I made my way to a viewpoint overlooking the rolling hills, I stopped to have a picnic I had packed—a simple sandwich and some apple cider. The view was breathtaking and made the journey worth every step.
On my way back, I also took a detour into a nearby village, Lower Slaughter, which is just as beautiful as its name suggests. The area is famous for its tranquil setting and the historic watermill.
