As I walked along the riverbanks, I encountered families enjoying picnics and ducks paddling lazily in the water. It was lovely to see such a vibrant community enjoying the outdoors. I stopped for a moment to chat with an elderly gentleman who had lived in the area all his life. He shared stories of the village's history, including its significance during the wool trade in medieval times. He pointed out several buildings that once served as wool stores, reminding me of how the prosperity of the area was built on this industry.
Continuing my walk, I headed towards Lower Slaughter, a nearby village that is often described as one of the most beautiful in the Cotswolds. The path took me through lush fields and past grazing sheep, their soft bleats adding to the serene atmosphere. In Lower Slaughter, I admired the old mill and the charming cottages that dotted the landscape. The quaintness of this village felt almost untouched by time, which made me appreciate the importance of preserving such heritage.
Along the way, I also stumbled upon a small café, and I couldn’t resist stopping for a slice of homemade cake and a cup of tea. The café was bustling with locals and tourists alike, and I ended up chatting with a couple from London who were exploring the Cotswolds for the first time. They shared their excitement about visiting other historic sites in the area, such as the stunning Sudeley Castle nearby.
