The heatwave continued today. A slight cool change swept through in the evening, allowing us to go for a walk down to the local lake.
During the walk I was horrified to find a magpie that had been decapitated.
Perhaps it encountered a fox. They are becoming quite a problem around here. But the wound was clean and there was no evidence of other trauma to the bird. That leads me to believe that maybe some disturbed individual thought that beheading a magpie was a good way to bring in the New Year.
I hope that I am wrong.
