Once per year my company gives all employees a day off to serve our society. Those who work in offices have an organised charity event. Remote employees, like I, have a free choice.
What I do, is to take disabled people out for a hike. Easy of course, adjusted to abilities. This year I invited a woman after a stroke (middle in the fist photo) and a woman half blind (left hand side of the 1st photo).
We were blessed by a fantastic weather - cold and clear skies, dry crisp air giving perfect visibility. But I needed more - dry and snow-free roads to drive up high. All worked perfectly.
Our „hike” was a stroll under 2km and less than 100m of total elevation gain but walking on snow with half-paralysed person takes time. I gave her the time and encouraged her. She did well and went up as far as she could. Another challenge was to explain the vista to person who only sees a faint difference between white snow and the outline of mountains. I think I did it as vividly as possible.
It was a great day serving others and I thank my company for giving me this opportunity.
