Hello everyone
How was your Saturday? I did a lot of activities, but I forgot to turn on the application until the afternoon. 🤦Even so I have done 10.000 steps. Well this afternoon we visited the ruins of the ocher mines. Ocher is an earthy mineral, iron oxide mixed with clay. It has been used since prehistoric times as a coloring.
Neanderthal man used this mineral and Homo sapiens also painted caves using the pigment they obtained from red ocher. The ocher was also used as body paint and in the performance of rituals.
In Roman times the mines had an organized exploitation. They obtained pigments from ocher to dye clothes and to make paint to decorate the walls of buildings.
The last period of use of these mines was from the middle of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
In the lower part of the ravine we can see remains of some pillars that served as support for the rails of the wagons that carried the mineral to the shore, where it was embarked on boats.
The family who run the mine
For sure this was an interesting afternoon ☺️. Until tomorrow 👋
