Researchers have recently created a switch made of quantum materials that can make your device thousands of times faster by controlling only light and temperature. Perhaps in the future, this quantum switch is going to be the central process where silicon will no longer be needed.

Northeastern University physicist Alberto de la Torre has prepared a quantum material switch by heating and cooling the material in a controlled manner through a technique called thermal quenching in such a way that it can change between a conductive and an insulating state at the same time.
With the technological revolution reaching its limit, scientists have been looking for an alternative that will be much smaller, more powerful and incredibly fast. This quantum switch is a unique example of this. Researchers have used a material called IT-TaS2 that can conduct electricity very well in an instant and turn it off and on completely, just like a switch works.
