My wife’s still working on our retaining wall so part of my step count today was from carrying bags of gravel and moving buckets/wheelbarrows of dirt. Most our property has heavy clayey dirt. The garden soil has been amended, and our raised beds are doing well, other than the peppers which have been under attack by leaf-munching pests. Time to spray with a mixture of baking soda, dish soap, and a few drops of olive oil. Our raspberry bushes have been producing heavily, we had a raspberry cobbler yesterday.
One of the unforeseen side effects of having retired at the end of last summer is that on weekdays I’m eating better breakfasts than I use to. I had always seemed to be running ten minutes late (even if I got up ten minutes earlier than usual) and having to wolf down a bowl of cereal before heading off to the office. Now I have time to scrounge through the refrigerator hunting for leftovers:
