No doubt the best steps of the day were the ones I took entering the venue to see "Weird Al" Yankovic last night. I saw him more than 22 years ago at the same venue. Boy does that make me feel old...
I guess you could argue that with this tour he is showing his age a little. He is, after all, in his 60s now. This tour doesn't feature all the crazy costume changes and complex production elements of past tours. He was sitting throughout most of the show as well. Overall, it was reminiscent of a more intimate unplugged type show (though it wasn't unplugged) and that was the idea. However, having said that, he still looks pretty much the same and sounds as good as he ever has.
This show had a special guest/opening act, Emo Philips, a comedian who also appeared in UHF. As far as the show itself, each one has a different set list. However, for this tour he is performing almost exclusively original songs as opposed to parodies. That still leaves some great songs though. Some of the best of the night included:
Good Old Days
Midnight Star
One More Minute
Christmas at Ground Zero
When I Was Your Age
Albuquerque
Plus there was an awesome meddley at the end and tons more. Emo was on for about 30 minutes and Weird Al played for roughly an hour and 45 minutes. It was an awesome show.
