A curious visitor in the square (Eng/Esp)

Today I went for a walk downtown to do some shopping, and as I was walking through Pichincha Square, an iguana crossed my path. I guess it had fallen out of a tree and was still disoriented because it looked lost. I took the opportunity to take some pictures to record the moment and also to tell my wife that I was late because I stopped to wait for an iguana to climb a tree.

I have seen several iguanas in my life, including when there was a guava tree at home. A couple of them lived there, and my mom would throw fruit shells at the ceiling to feed them because she thought they were good animals.

On this walk, I was also surprised to see how many people, upon seeing the iguana, commented that it would appear in the animal lottery, and indeed it did appear at 11 a.m., which I found amusing because I had given up gambling several years ago.

Right next to Pichincha Square, there are two horse racing tracks and about seven lottery agencies. When I returned from running my errands, some acquaintances told me they had won with the iguana and asked me why I hadn't bet. I told them that I had already retired from that world and that now my mind is set on enjoying life, appreciating nature, and walking for my health.

Hoy salí a caminar rumbo al centro para realizar unas compras y transitando por la plaza Pichincha, una iguana me salió al paso, supongo que se cayó de un árbol y todavía estaba desorientada porque lucía perdida. Aproveché para tomarle unas fotografías para registrar este momento y además decirle a mi esposa que me tardé porque me detuve a esperar que una iguana se subiera a un árbol.

He visto varias iguanas en mi vida, inclusive cuando había un árbol de guayaba en la casa, una pareja de ellas vivía allí y mi mamá lanzaba conchas de frutas al techo para alimentarlas ya que consideraba que eran buenos animales.

En esta caminata también me sorprendió observar la cantidad de personas que al ver a la iguana comentaban que iba a salir en la lotería de animalitos y en efecto salió para las 11 de la mañana, lo que me causó gracia porque desde hace varios años me alejé de los juegos de envite y azar.

Justamente en las adyacencias de la plaza Pichincha se pueden ubicar dos centros hípicos y unas siete agencias de loterías. Al regreso de realizar mis tareas, algunos conocidos me dijeron que ganaron con la iguana y me preguntaron por qué no había apostado, les dije que ya me había retirado de todo ese mundo, ahora mi mente está puesta en disfrutar de la vida, apreciar la naturaleza y caminar por salud.
