Early morning walk to look for Bramley apple windfalls to go with the blackberries I picked the day before. I was lucky and found a couple of pounds including two good-sized ones that had fallen recently. I forgot to take a bag and came home with pockets full of swag.
Another walk to the shop later to buy more sugar (74p for 1kg), so each pot of jam will cost about 37p. That's quite a saving. I'm aiming to make 6 × 500g pots - 2 each of wild plum, blackberry & apple and rhubarb and ginger (slightly more expensive because of the ginger, I think maybe as much as 87p, but it's one you won't find in the shops).
I like bread and jam, especially with a cup of tea in the afternoon. But all of them would be lovely thinned slightly with a little water to make a fruit sauce or topping for cakes, puddings and ice cream.
I also have all the makings for gelato: chopped bananas I froze earlier, peanut butter and cocoa powder. One recipe I saw you can add honey, maple or agave syrup if you wish. I can do that any time, unlike the jam where it is important to use the fruit quickly.
