Today’s photo shows an eggnog cake.
A few weeks ago we met by chance while shopping.
After many years.
We decided to spend a day together at the Rhine.
Later we continued the conversation at my home.
Today we visited them.
We took our bikes and rode to a nearby village.
A place where I once grew up.
I rarely go there now. Mostly only for shopping.
This time it was different.
First coffee and cake.
The eggnog cake was excellent.
Then the conversation moved slowly towards the past.
Old stories. Shared memories.
And the question how a place changes when you are away for many years.
Afterwards we walked through the village.
Familiar streets. Corners I remembered. Some things unchanged. Others completely different.
Strange how places can feel both familiar and distant at the same time.
In the end it was simply a good day.
We rode back home just before darkness arrived.
