I'm about 35 hours from my departure flight from Surabaya, Indonesia. Hard to believe that I've been here for almost 6 weeks. I'm finally getting comfortable in Indonesia even though I speak very little of the language. I've seen lots of nice hotels, met lots of nice people and lost 6kg.
Overall I'll say its a successful time here.
Today I left the JW Marriot and walked over to the Sheraton Tunjungan mall. Before I left the hotel I wrote an article or two, I hit up the gym and did my arm day (but with machines today) and did about 40 minutes of cardio.
It was a nice surprise when I found out that the gym not only had cold water but they also had unsweetened ice tea. :) .. It was a nice perk in a nice hotel.
The new hotel? Located in the Tunjungan mall or at the very least linked to it.
Unfortunately this hotel didn't lend out HDMI cables which made me a little sad. However, the hotel staff suggested I try the Mr. DIY in the mall for an inexpensive cable.
Result I headed out into the mall. Unfortunately it is a very large mall. 5 different sections and multiple levels.
Finding one store in the maze of different levels and areas was kind of challenging. I was walking like a man on a mission through the mall wishing that the locals would walk just a little faster but that was only a very minor irritation.
Eventually I found the store. Horray!
It was kind of funny. They had an entire wall of different cables. Of course the majority of them were USB-C. There was even a USB-C to HDMI cable. They had an HDMI extension cable. But on the whole wall...not one regular HDMI to HDMI cable.
Luckily I brought one short HDMI cable from Canada but it wasn't long enough. The extension cord was all that I needed.
Got the cable. Came back and watched a bit of TV. Hit up the executive lounge for some dinner then started planning the final hotels and flights of the trip.
I needed a hotel when I land in Manila (my next stop after Indonesia). I needed a flight from Manila to Tuguegarao where my parents live. I needed my E-Travel card so I can enter the Philippines. Plus I made a digital copy of my EVOA from Indonesia...but in case they need to see it to verify that I didn't overstay my visa here.
Overall a pretty good day.
Although I will also admit that my wife is getting irritated I've been away from home so long. My son is accusing me of abandonment and honestly? I'm a little homesick.
Time away is great...
.... Even to make you miss what you already have.
... And that is my report for the day. Until tomorrow :)
