Today I'm in Unity, Saskatchewan, Canada. I'm here with my mom to visit. It is actually a little hard to be here because my mom is getting old at 79 years and marching towards 80. However her health and mobility is declining. She can't walk, just shuffle. She can't go anywhere without her walker and she tires easily. She can't sleep in her bed anymore because she can't get out of it and sleeps in a recliner which has a mechanical lift so she can get up.
Her mind is sharp but she is no longer there strong independent woman she used to be. That is very hard for me.
Additionally hard is she is looking at the possibility of a second home near where I live. An independent living community. With a three year waiting list. I look at her and think... Does she have three years left? If she does will she still be independent? Even now she can't really function on her own so how much less in three years.
Of course her mindset is that she will retain her mobility and finally get to travel across Canada. I hope it happens but honestly believe that her journey is shorter than she cares to admit and highly unlikely to involve thousands of kilometres across Canada.
Which is a strong reminder to me..
Enjoy moving while I can and keep strong!
Sure I will age and in time I will likely be in the same position she is in... But I want to live, travel and enjoy while I can!
Now the journey to my mom's house?
Flat
flat
flat
flat with snow
And the funny thing? Those images look virtually identical yet the distance between images is able 100km between. The road is that flat and that straight for 299km according to the GPS!
But in town to get my steps today? I went for a walk. Slowly because of slippery streets but, well, flat.
It was a bright and sunny day but that means cold. Since it's almost April is not the buying -50C cold that I went to Surabaya to escape but -15C isn't exactly warm
Well I should backtrack a little. It was -15 at night, probably -4 when I went to the store in the morning to get cereal for breakfast, around +6 when it went for my late morning walk. It was chilly but snow was beginning to melt :)
It is really a nice town and I like walking the streets. Not busy but there are a few people to say hello to and crossing the street isn't life threatening like it was in Manila:)
Overall it was a great way to spend the morning and early afternoon. In addition to some errands like heading to city hall and checking property taxes I headed back to the house to write a post or two. Get some sleep (I'm still jet lagged). Then in the evening I went to a movie with my sister, neice and my brother in law. Saw the movie "Memories of him" which was a much better movie than I thought it would be.
Overall an excellent day and glad that I got enough steps to make a post :)
